Privacy Policy
Draft, pending lawyer review. This is our plain-English policy for the SuperDrive apps and this site. A lawyer is still reviewing it, and it may change before our full launch.
SuperDrive helps car owners and the people who work on their cars (mechanics, mobile detailers, and shop owners) text each other, send quotes and invoices, and get paid. This policy covers:
- SuperDrive Shop, the iPhone app for mechanics, detailers, and shop owners.
- SuperDrive: Car Care, the iPhone app for car owners.
- Your link. The web page a car owner opens from a text their mechanic or detailer sends (it starts with /t/).
- superdrive.co, this website, and its two sign-up forms.
SuperDrive is run from New York, NY. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean SuperDrive. A "pro" means a mechanic, detailer, or shop that uses SuperDrive Shop. A "customer" means a car owner.
The short version
- We collect what we need to run the apps: your phone number, your name, your cars, your messages, and records of the work and payments.
- We don't sell your personal information. We don't show ads. We don't use tracking or analytics tools.
- Your pro sees your history with them. Other pros don't, unless you share it.
- We combine records from across SuperDrive into de-identified numbers, like what a brake job usually costs in an area. We may publish them or license them to other companies. They never name you, your car, or a pro.
- The record of the work on a car stays with the car. If it's sold, the next owner can see what was done and when, never your name or what you paid.
- We work out a trust score for each pro from their work on SuperDrive.
- Card and bank payments go through Stripe. We never see or store your full card or bank number.
- You can delete your account in the app.
What we collect
Everyone who signs in
- Phone number. You sign in with a code we text you. There's no password.
- Name. The name you give us, or the name your pro saved for you.
- Messages you send and get in SuperDrive, plus the quotes, invoices, and other cards in them.
- A device token from your iPhone, so we can send you notifications if you allow them.
Car owners
- Your cars: year, make, model, VIN, license plate, mileage, and a nickname if you add one. We keep each mileage reading with its date, so we can tell roughly how much the car is driven.
- What you tell Rich about your car: when a service was last done (an oil change, a tire rotation, an inspection), where it was done if you say, what the sticker on your windshield says, and about how much you drive.
- Your history with a pro: quotes, approvals, invoices, payments, prepaid packs, and ratings you leave.
- A service address when a mobile detailer comes to you (your pro types it in).
- Your ZIP code if you save one, or your phone's location if you allow it, to show how far away shops and pros are. See "Location" below.
Pros and shop owners
- Your shop name, your trade, and your shop's street address or the ZIP code and distance you cover.
- Your customers' names, phone numbers, and cars, which you enter or they share with you.
- Quotes, invoices, and payment records, including the amount and how you were paid (card, bank, cash, or Zelle, as you record it), and the "What we found" notes you put on an invoice.
- A photo of your ASE certificate if you send one. Only SuperDrive staff can see it, to check it. Customers only see a "verified" badge.
- Bay rent records if you rent a bay in a shop on SuperDrive: rent, deposit, due dates, and payments.
- Whether your Stripe account is set up. Stripe collects your bank and tax details on its own pages, not ours. When you open Cash out, we read your Stripe balance, your recent payouts, and the bank or card name and last 4 digits from Stripe to show you. We don't store them.
The website forms
- Car owners who ask for SuperDrive in their town: name, email, city and state, and, if you add them, your car and a mechanic you trust.
- Shops and mechanics who ask to join: business name, your name, phone, email, city and state, your role, number of bays, how you get paid today, and any notes.
Things collected in the background
- When you ask for a sign-in code, we keep your phone number and your internet (IP) address for one day, to stop people from flooding us with fake requests.
- We keep a record of when you last used the app, and of your sign-ins so they can be ended.
- Our servers keep short technical logs. We write them so they leave out phone numbers and VINs.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your account safe.
- To deliver messages, quotes, invoices, receipts, and reminders between customers and pros.
- To take payments through Stripe and keep records of them.
- To show car owners shops and pros near them.
- To check a pro's ASE certificate.
- To remind car owners when a car is coming due for service, like an oil change or an inspection (see "Rich" below).
- To help pros and car owners with Rich, our assistant: suggested replies, filling in a quote from what a pro says, and reading what a car owner tells us about their car (see below).
- To work out each pro's trust score and decide the order pros appear in Find (see "The trust score" below).
- To keep each car's service record with its VIN (see "Your car's service record" below).
- To make combined, de-identified data and insights (see "Combined, de-identified data" below).
- To improve SuperDrive, including Rich, from the records people confirm and the changes pros make to Rich's drafts.
- If a pro asks for a cash advance or financing through SuperDrive, to share the pro's sales history on SuperDrive with that lender, with the pro's OK.
- To answer the website forms, bring on new shops, and decide which cities to open next.
- To fix problems, prevent fraud, and follow the law.
Who sees what inside SuperDrive
- Your pro sees you, your cars, and your history with them. A pro doesn't see your history with a different pro.
- If you message a pro from Find in SuperDrive: Car Care, the cars in your account are shared with that pro.
- Customers see their pro's name and shop name, whether the pro's ASE certificate is verified, the pro's ratings and trust score once we show them, and the quotes and invoices the pro sends them.
- The next owner of your car can see the car's service record once they show us the car is theirs: dates, mileage, the work done, and who did it. Never your name, your contact details, your messages, or what you paid.
- Shop owners see the name and phone number of each pro renting a bay, rent records, and the total money each bay brings in. They never see a pro's customers or what's on their invoices.
- Find in SuperDrive: Car Care lists pros and shops: name, shop, trade, city, address or distance, ASE badge, and ratings, and later the trust score.
- SuperDrive staff can see account information to run the service, check certificates, and help when something goes wrong.
Combined, de-identified data
We combine records from across SuperDrive (quotes, invoices, payments, the work done, mileage, ratings, and whether a problem came back) and take out anything that identifies a person, a pro, a shop, or a car: names, phone numbers, addresses, VINs, and plates. What's left is numbers like these:
- What a service usually costs, by area and by kind of car.
- How often recommended work gets put off, and how often a repair comes back.
- How far cars are driven between services.
We use these numbers to run and improve SuperDrive and to work out trust scores. We may also publish them, and sell or license them to other companies, like parts suppliers, lenders, and insurers. Our rules:
- A number is only released if it comes from at least five different pros.
- We never show one pro's prices to other pros, shop owners, or other companies.
- We don't sell or license records about a single person or a single car.
- We don't try to figure out who is behind de-identified data, and we require the companies we give it to not to try either.
Data that can't reasonably be tied to you isn't personal information under state privacy laws, so we keep it after you delete your account.
The trust score
From each pro's work on SuperDrive, we work out a trust score. It looks at how close the final bill comes to what the customer approved, how often the same problem comes back, ratings, how often customers return, and how a pro's quotes compare with other pros' quotes for the same work (using the combined numbers above, never another pro's own prices). The score follows the pro if they move to another shop. We may show it, or parts of it, to customers and use it to decide the order pros appear in Find. A pro can ask us how their score was worked out.
Your car's service record
The work a pro records on your car (the date, the mileage, the work done, and who did it) is kept with the car's VIN as its service record. You can see it in SuperDrive: Car Care, and you can share it. When a car changes owners, the new owner can see that record once they show us the car is theirs. It never includes your name, your contact details, your messages, or what you paid. If you delete your account or sell the car, the record stays with the car, without your name.
Rich, our assistant
Rich helps in a few ways. In every one of them, a person checks what Rich wrote before anything is sent or saved, except service reminders, which are explained below. Rich never approves anything, never moves money, and never makes up a price.
- Suggested replies. When a customer writes to a pro, Rich can write a suggested reply for the pro. To do that, we send the conversation to Anthropic's Claude service: the messages, first names, the cars, and the quotes and invoices in that thread. The pro reads every suggestion and decides whether to send it, change it, or throw it away.
- Quotes by voice. A pro can say a job out loud ("front pads and rotors, pads 48, hour and a half labor"), and Rich fills in the quote. The pro checks every line and price before sending it.
- What you tell Rich about your car. A car owner can describe recent work in their own words ("oil change in June at Jiffy Lube"), and Rich turns it into answers the owner confirms on the next screens.
- "What we found." A pro can ask Rich to put their notes about a job into plain words for the invoice. The pro edits the text before it's saved.
- Sorting messages. Rich can use TypeSafe's AI to read a customer's message and answer narrow questions about it, like whether the customer is approving a quote, asking a question, or wants to wait. TypeSafe doesn't write anything. Its answers only help Rich decide what to suggest to the pro, and they never approve a quote, send a payment, or move money. To do that, we send TypeSafe the message and what it needs to understand it: first names, the car, and the open quote or job.
- Service reminders. From the work on record and what you've told us, Rich lets car owners know when a service is coming due. The reminder arrives as a notification and as a message in your conversation with the pro who did the work, and that pro can see it too. These reminders are never sent as texts. You can turn them off in SuperDrive: Car Care (Me, then Service reminders).
Where Rich runs. On iPhones that have Apple Intelligence turned on, Rich does quotes by voice, what you tell Rich, and "What we found" on your phone, using Apple's built-in model, so those words don't leave your phone. On other iPhones, the words are sent to our servers and to Anthropic's Claude service to be read, and only the result comes back. Either way, we don't keep the words themselves. We keep only the quote, answers, or notes you confirm, plus a record that Rich was used and how long it took. We use what people confirm, and the changes pros make to Rich's drafts, to make Rich better. Under our agreements, neither Anthropic nor TypeSafe uses this data to train its models. They may keep it for a limited time to run and secure their service, and TypeSafe may keep technical logs and usage statistics.
Speaking to the app. Quotes by voice use your iPhone's microphone, only while you're talking to Rich and only if you allow it. Apple turns the speech into text, on your phone where it can, otherwise on Apple's servers. We never receive or keep the recording.
Rich's suggested replies can be turned off. If you're a pro and don't want them, tell us.
Payments
Card and bank payments are handled by Stripe. You type your card or bank details on Stripe's page, not ours. We never see or store your full card or bank account number. The pro is the seller, and the money goes from you to the pro's Stripe account. SuperDrive never holds your money. We keep a record of each payment (amount, date, method, and Stripe's reference number). Cash and Zelle payments are recorded by the pro. Stripe keeps its own records under Stripe's privacy policy.
Companies that help us run SuperDrive
We share information with these companies only so they can do a job for us.
- Twilio texts sign-in codes and messages. It gets phone numbers and the text of those messages.
- Stripe handles payments (see above).
- Anthropic runs the AI behind Rich (see above).
- TypeSafe helps Rich sort messages (see above). It gets the message and the details needed to understand it.
- Apple delivers notifications to your iPhone. If you use them, Apple also turns speech into text, runs Rich on iPhones with Apple Intelligence, and translates messages (see "Translating messages" below).
- Cloudflare hosts our servers, database, and stored files, like certificate photos.
- Netlify hosts this website and stores the form entries.
- NHTSA (the U.S. government's car safety agency) gets a VIN so we can look up the year, make, and model.
- The U.S. Census Bureau and zippopotam.us get a pro's street address or a ZIP code so we can figure out distances. They get the place, not your name.
- Google Fonts supplies the lettering on this site and on your link. Google sees your IP address when the fonts load.
- Lenders, like Stripe Capital, get a pro's sales history on SuperDrive only if the pro asks them for a cash advance or financing and says OK.
Companies that license combined data from us get only de-identified numbers (see "Combined, de-identified data" above), never your information.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of SuperDrive. If that happens, this policy still covers your information.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal information, or "share" it for ads as some state laws define that word. The combined, de-identified data we license isn't personal information.
- We don't show ads, and we don't give your information to advertisers.
- We don't use analytics or tracking tools, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
Text messages
We text you sign-in codes you ask for. Other texts, like a pro's quotes, updates, invoices, and receipts, or rent and account notices for pros, only start after you opt in and confirm by replying YES. You can opt in when your pro asks you at the shop, by texting SUPERDRIVE to (917) 779-8400, or in SuperDrive: Car Care. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop texts, or HELP for help. The full program terms are on our Text messages page.
We keep a record of when and how you opted in or out, so we can prove your consent and honor a STOP.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties. The companies listed above that help us run SuperDrive, like Twilio, only get what they need to deliver the service.
Translating messages
In either app, you can press and hold a message and tap Translate. Apple's translation does this. Apple may process the text on its servers unless your iPhone is set to translate on the device (Settings, Apps, Translate, On-Device Mode). We don't save translations.
Camera and microphone
The apps use your camera only when you tap to scan something: a VIN, an oil-change sticker, or (in SuperDrive Shop) an ASE certificate. Scanning a VIN or a sticker reads the text on your phone. Only what it reads, like the VIN or the mileage, is used, and no photo is saved. SuperDrive Shop uses the microphone only for quotes by voice (see "Rich" above). You can turn the camera and microphone off in your iPhone's Settings.
Location
SuperDrive: Car Care can use your phone's location, only if you allow it, to sort shops and pros by distance. The location is used for that one search. We don't save it. If you'd rather not share it, you can save a ZIP code instead, and we'll use that. You can turn location off anytime in your iPhone's Settings. SuperDrive Shop doesn't use your phone's location.
Cookies and tracking
This website and your link set no cookies and run no advertising or analytics trackers. The apps keep your sign-in key in your iPhone's secure storage (the Keychain) so you stay signed in.
Your link
The link your pro texts you works like a key: anyone who has it can open your conversation with that pro. Don't forward it to people you don't want to see it. A link stops working 30 days after your pro last texted you. Your pro can send a new one anytime.
How long we keep it
- Your account information, until you delete your account.
- Invoices and payment records, for as long as the pro needs them for taxes. If you delete your account, we keep these without your name.
- Sign-in code records, one day.
- Records that Rich was used (which feature, how long it took, whether it worked, never the words), until you delete your account.
- A car's service record, with the car, for as long as SuperDrive runs. It drops your name when you delete your account or sell the car.
- Combined, de-identified data, for as long as it's useful to us.
- Website form entries, until you ask us to delete them or we no longer need them.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside either app with the Delete account button. That erases your name, phone number, cars (with their mileage readings and what you told Rich about them), devices, and sign-ins. Invoices and payment records stay, but without your name, because pros need them for their taxes. The work pros recorded on your cars stays with each car's VIN as its service record, also without your name. Combined, de-identified data stays too. Stripe keeps its own records of card and bank payments under its own policy.
To delete a website form entry, reply to any email we sent you, or write to us (see "Contact us").
Your choices and rights
- See, fix, or delete your information. Most of it you can change in the app.
- Turn notifications off in your iPhone's Settings, or turn off service reminders in SuperDrive: Car Care.
- Turn the camera or microphone off in your iPhone's Settings.
- Turn location off in your iPhone's Settings, or use a ZIP code instead.
- Reply STOP to stop texts.
Your state privacy rights
Some states, including California, give you extra rights over your information. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what information we collect about you, where it comes from, why we use it, and who we share it with.
- Get a copy of your information.
- Have us correct it or delete it.
- Tell us not to sell or share it. We don't sell your personal information or share it for ads, so there's nothing to turn off.
- Not be treated differently for using these rights.
To ask, write to us (see "Contact us"). We'll check that it's really you, usually by texting a code to the phone number on the account. Someone you choose can ask for you if they show us they have your permission. If we say no to your request, you can ask us to look at it again. If you live in New York, we protect your information as New York's data security and breach notice law requires.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Sign-ins can be ended at any time, and they expire on their own. Only the people who run SuperDrive can open our admin tools, and certificate photos are kept private. No system is perfectly safe, but we work hard to protect your information, and we'll tell you if a breach affects you.
Kids
SuperDrive isn't for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is big, like a new way we use your information, we'll tell you in the app or by text before it takes effect.
